Salisbury man runs Manchester Marathon in memory of late mum
Adam Abel ran the marathon on behalf of the Stars Appeal
A Salisbury man has completed the Manchester Marathon, raising over £2,000 for the Stars Appeal.
Adam Abel ran the marathon in April to support the Radnor Intensive Care Unit Fund after they supported him and his family follow the death of his mum Becky.
She passed away in 2022 after having a brain aneurysm.
He said: “On the 8th June 2022, my mum went for a walk, only for her to never return. While she was out on her walk she called me to say “something's happening, I’m in trouble” then hung up the phone. This would be the last time I would ever speak to her.”
Adam and his dad rushed to her side, but his mum's condition worsened as they waited for an ambulance and they began CPR in a bid to keep her alive.
The family were told by doctors that the brain aneurysm was “unsurvivable” and “the effects were irreversible”. She was cared for by staff on Radnor Ward in the final days of her life.
Adam completed the marathon in 3 hours, 16 minutes and 47 seconds, raising a total of £2,360.
He was supported through his marathon challenge by his friends, family and coach Ruth Barker.
“Raising this amount of money for the Radnor Ward means the absolute world to me. I couldn’t be more grateful for the incredible support I’ve received from everyone to make this happen," he said.
Adam added: "To be able to give back to the ward after all of the support they gave me and my family during our worst moments is something I’ll cherish forever. They are the real superheroes of this world and deserve all of the support they can get, for all of the incredible life-changing work they do.”
