A 21 year old man from Salisbury has been jailed after pleading guilty to possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.

Robert Papa, of no fixed address, will spend 2 and a half years in prison for the offence.

He was sentenced at Salisbury Crown Court yesterday (Thursday 12th November).

On Wednesday 14th October 2020, Papa was stopped on the A303 between Amesbury and Andover after police intelligence showed the car he was driving was being used to supply drugs.

Officers from Wiltshire's Fortitude team searched the vehicle and the man and found him in possession of 18 bags of cocaine.

They had a street value of around ÂŁ900.

Meanwhile, evidence on his phone suggested that he had just sold the drugs in Amesbury.

Papa was stopped by officers from Wiltshire Police's Fortitude team, which tackles prolific and high profile offenders

Papa, who had just arrived in the country from Romania a few days previously, had no previous convictions in the UK.

Detective Constable Mark Welch, from the Fortitude Team, said:

"This is a good result for the team as it proves good intelligence given to the police can track down and prevent criminals continuing to supply illegal drugs in to our county as well as across borders.

"We believe Papa to have been part of a larger drugs network and so this sentence will impact and disrupt the activities of those criminal gangs.

"Wiltshire Police will continue to robustly pursue those who sell controlled drugs and with the launch of Fortitude this pursuit will be relentless."
