A man has been jailed for six years and ten months after he broke a pedestrian’s leg by deliberately driving into him in Salisbury.

33 year-old Ashley Sherred, of Southampton Road, Salisbury had pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm with intent and dangerous driving.

He was also sentenced for dangerous driving in relation to a separate incident, where he fled from police and rammed a police vehicle.

Investigating officer DC Dan Smith from South CID said: “Sherred’s actions in Bemerton Heath in May have left the innocent victim with significant injuries and I’m pleased Sherred now faces justice for his actions that day.

“The victim simply wanted to speak with him in relation to Sherred’s antisocial driving in a quiet, residential part of Salisbury, and Sherred has instead used his vehicle as a weapon to collide with him.

“The victim suffered a significant leg injury but it could have been much worse.

“I would like to thank the victim and the wider public for their support with that investigation, which has seen Sherred brought before the court today.

“Sherred was also sentenced for an incident in Salisbury last year, when he drove a vehicle across Salisbury heavily intoxicated before ramming a police vehicle, leaving the officer in fear for his own safety.

“During that incident, he failed to stop for officers, collided with a fence, drove the wrong way down a one-way street and had several near misses, before eventually decamping from his vehicle, when he was arrested.

“We will not tolerate driving and violence like this in Wiltshire.”
