A 23 year old man from Salisbury has died following a serious assault which took place on Sunday morning (20th February) on New Canal.

Freddie Fontete-Jones died in hospital with his family by his side.

A fight broke out at 3am involving around fifteen men.

Fontete-Jones was taken to hospital with a serious head injury following the incident.

Connor Pool, 24, of Salt Lane, Winterbourne Gunner, appeared at Swindon Magistrates’ Court today charged with Section 18 grievous bodily harm.

He will next appear before Winchester Crown Court on Friday 25 March.

Wiltshire Police say their thoughts are with Freddie's family and friends at this awful time and they are being supported by specialist officers.

"A BRILLIANT MAN"

Tributes have already been coming in on social media for Freddie.

He was part of Laverstock and Ford Football Club, who posted a message on their Facebook page.

They called Freddie a "brilliant man" and "an enforcer on the pitch".
