People in Wiltshire who have poor or no access to the internet are being kept connected as Wiltshire libraries are distributing free SIM cards, mobile data, texts and calls.

Salisbury library is among those teaming up with the Good Things Foundation, who’s National Databank aims to help vulnerable people across the UK get connected.

They achieve this with data donated by Virgin Media, O2, Vodafone and Three.

Up to six months of data can be gifted on a single occasion, with one person allowed a maximum of 12 months.

Recipients must meet one of the following criteria and must be 18 or over:

• No or poor access to the internet at home.

• No or poor access to the internet away from home.

• Cannot afford their existing monthly contract or top-up.

To benefit from the scheme, a recipient’s device must either be unlocked or, if locked, be locked to O2, Vodafone or Three (locked devices will only work with the provider they were bought from).
