Salisbury District Hospital’s once in a generation Open Day this Saturday (22nd) will feature a trip through history with a Battlefield hospital.

The 243 (Wessex) Field Hospital will be providing a dive into the works of military medicine throughout history complete with demonstrations of how war-time casualties are treated and cared for.

It’s a year of two anniversaries for the Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust to celebrating this year, with the NHS turning 75 and also marking 80 years of a hospital on Odstock Road.

Our hospital has it’s origins from WWII in 1943, where the US Army set up a field hospital to treat casualties from the Battle of Normandy, the D-Day landings, and the Liberation of Europe in 1945.

Several of the current hospital departments will be displaying their services to visitors, while blue light services will be present with vehicles and crews to discuss their work on the front line.

The open day will include various activities and live music.

Parking will be free.
