Salisbury Hospice hosting Summer Fair at Wilton House
Today's event (Saturday 3rd August) is one of the charity's flagships
The grounds of Wilton House are being turned into a huge fete today (Saturday 3rd August), in support of Salisbury Hospice.
The charity's Summer Fair returns for its 10th edition, having grown to become their flagship fundraiser.
It's expected to attract 4,000 people and raise £60,000 for the charity's work providing palliative care and supporting families.
The team behind it have personal reasons for getting involved - as fundraiser Greig Futcher explains:
"My late wife passed away at the Hospice at the age of 40, and because of the care they gave not only her, but me and our three children, it was phenomenal, second-to-none, and I just had to give back.
"The Hospice is very underfunded by the Government and we have to do our bit to raise £1 million plus every year to keep it open."
Events at the Fair include motorcycle displays, live music, duck races, classic cars, falconry and much more.
There's also a 'retreat' area focussed on wellbeing and a children's village, with activities for younger guests.
This year includes a 'community arena' too, showcasing local groups and their talents.
Tickets are still available on the gate, with visitors asked to use the Netherhampton gate to Wilton House if arriving by car, with pedestrians using the Sawmills entrance.
Greig Futcher from the Hospice team says it's also a way of them thanking the community:
"It's such a phenomenal unit and every penny people can give is a penny we wouldn't have got if they hadn't have done. Doing something like this Fair is just to show our gratitude for those who do support us."
