Hospice staff in Salisbury are getting some recognition from the charity's fundraising team as people take part in the Captain Tom 100 challenge.

Over this weekend, they are going to be creating 100 thank you gestures including things like cards, baked goods and flowers all in honour of those providing end of life care in the city.

Throughout the last year the team have overcome many challenges to care for their patients and support their families and friends.

2021 is also a special one for Salisbury Hospice as it celebrates it's 40th anniversary.

They have cared for up 1,000 patients for each of those years.

Paula Flower, Head of Fundraising at Salisbury Hospice Charity, said:

"The Fundraising Team are delighted to be joining the '100 Thank You Challenge' it means we'll not only be sending an enormous thank you to the team at Salisbury Hospice, but raising essential funds for the hospice too".

CAPTAIN TOM MOORE CHALLENGE

Captain Sir Tom Moore's family wanted to celebrate his life with an event everyone could get involved with.

So they set up a challenge that runs from yesterday (Friday 30th April) to Monday (3rd May) and encourages people to take part in any kind of fundraising challenge around the number 100.

They picked this weekend as it would have been the NHS hero's 101st birthday.

A number of Salisbury charities including the Stars Appeal and Salisbury Hospice Charity have asked their supporters to get involved and raise some money for them.

Captain Tom's daughter, Hannah Ingram-Moore, said:

"We are so grateful for the incredible support we have received since my father started his record-breaking fundraising walk and that his message of hope was shared with the world. Captain Tom was very proud to be able to leave behind the growing legacy of his Foundation. We know he would love the idea of inviting everyone to get involved and share their Captain Tom 100 so that together we can ensure 'Tomorrow will be a good day'. We look forward to celebrating with you on what would have been his 101st birthday weekend - it's going to be fun!"
