Salisbury Hospice Charity's Christmas Tree collection service has proved to be a big success this year, raising a record amount .

Between the 8th and 10th of January a team of volunteers collected a total of 1,314 trees from across the city and surrounding villages.

Each person who signed up was asked to make a donation to the charity in return.

From this project they have raised £21,586.

10% of this will also go to local charity Serve On, who assisted with the collection and offer support to the community in times of need.

All the trees they collect are chipped thanks to the efforts of local tree services.

Chippings are then recycled as animal bedding on a local farm or turned into compost.

The money raised from the collection will support Salisbury Hospice and the work they do.

Each year they care for up to 1,000 people living with life-limiting illnesses and its services are free of charge to everyone who uses them.

Some of the volunteers took their job very seriously!

Annually, Salisbury Hospice Charity needs to raise £1.5 million, over 60% of the £2.4 million needed to maintain the vital palliative care services at the hospice.
