Salisbury Hospice has announced a new charity patron - the Countess of Pembroke.

She's been involved with the cause for a while, but now makes her role official.

It comes ahead of the Salisbury Summer Fair next month too, which is being held in the grounds of Lady Pembroke's Wilton House.

The Hospice say they 'welcome her valuable support and enthusiasm' and she said:

“It was a great honour and privilege to have been asked to become Patron of Salisbury Hospice Charity. I am humbled by the incredible work carried out by the Hospice and I am inspired by the profound impact it has on the lives of patients and their families during their most challenging moments.

"The charity’s commitment to ensuring comfort, dignity and solace to those in need is truly commendable. I’m delighted to be opening the Salisbury Summer Fair this year and look forward to welcoming everyone to the fun filled day, which raises an incredible amount for the hospice."

The Salisbury Summer Fair, formerly known as the Wessex Country Fair, is being held on Saturday 5th August.

There'll be live music, have-a-go children's activities, falconry displays, a hobby horse derby, and duck races along the River Nadder.

A Land Rover Village is also planned, as part of the normal vintage cars on display.

New for 2023, there's also a health and wellbeing area named The Retreat with workshops, classes, talks and treatments.

Natalie Pester, Marketing & Communications Officer for Salisbury Hospice Charity, said:

“We are very grateful for the kind generosity of the local community and many businesses who are supporting us this year to make the Salisbury Summer Fair feasible. I would particularly like to thank our headline sponsor Hendy Group for their valuable support and look forward to seeing the community come together to raise vital funds for Salisbury Hospice.”
