A special commemorative service is to be held in Salisbury city centre, to mark 80 years to the day since the end of World War Two.

The local branch of the Royal British Legion, and the City Council, are hosting an event in the Guildhall Square on Thursday 8th May at 5.30pm.

The event's in recognition of the 80th anniversary of VE Day, with other activities planned around the country and across the continent.

Our city's service will see the music from the Salisbury Band of the Royal British Legion and the Town Crier delivering the VE80 Proclamation at Salisbury’s War Memorial at 6.00pm.

That'll be followed by a short Act of Remembrance.

Salisbury City Council have said:

"The short service will provide an opportunity for everyone to pause for a moment and reflect on the many millions of people who died during this conflict, as well as pay tribute to those who fought and died for the freedom we all enjoy today.

"The bells of St Thomas’ church will ring out afterwards, joining other churches and cathedrals in celebration of the end of this terrible conflict in Europe."

Everyone's welcome to attend the commemoration events.
