Groups in Salisbury can apply for grants of up to £750 towards activities for young people in the city.

The City Council's reopening their Youth Bursaries Grant Scheme after its first edition last year, which supported five local projects.

In 2023, Salisbury Area Young Musicians, Salisbury Rugby Club, Motiv8, Salisbury FC, and Wiltshire Creative received grants of between £540 and £750.

That enabled 63 young people to take part in music tuition, performance and art activities, sports and physical activity.

One young person who benefitted said:

"I would not have been able to come here at all without support. It’s been great and will help me with my college application too. I have made new friends and now I am off to college, I know I will stay in touch with them.”

Sam Charleston, Chair of the Events, Markets and Grants Subcommittee who approved this grant programme said:

“Salisbury City Council knows that there are a huge range of organisations, clubs associations and charities across the city providing fantastic opportunities for our young people, it costs money to run those activities and while providers try to keep costs low, any cost can be a barrier to some young people. This grant scheme is a small part of widening access to opportunities for young people and we are delighted to be able to offer it again this year.”

Any local organisation offering paid for activity for young people, from dance to coding, from football to pottery and who meets the eligibility criteria can apply for a grant of up to £750 to provide subsidised and free places.

The deadline for applications through the Salisbury City Council website is Monday 18th March 2024.
