New awards to honour 'green' efforts by Salisbury businesses
The Salisbury Green Awards aim to make the city more eco-friendly
A new awards scheme's being set up in Salisbury, with the aim of helping local independent businesses to become more eco-friendly.
The Salisbury Green Business Awards have been set up by Salisbury Transition City (STC) to 'celebrate and promote local businesses that are making positive changes for the environment', while also providing support for companies who'd like to do more.
Eva McHugh is the project manager for scheme, and hopes it will encourage a green revolution in Salisbury:
"It's been developed to try and encourage businesses who could be making green changes, by providing information and knowledge to do so, and also to celebrate those businesses who have already been doing great things for the environment.
"We hope to achieve a better understanding of what businesses can do in order to be a bit kinder to the environment. The more business that do make small changes to their business, the cleaner and greener Salisbury could potentially be."
Dan Collins, Business manager at Salisbury BID said:
“More and more businesses in Salisbury are looking for ways to be more environmentally conscious, but it can be very difficult to navigate the best ways to be greener.
“The awards not only promote the efforts of businesses that have already made positive changes, but also give guidance to businesses looking to be greener.”
The awards have been given funding from the National Lottery for its first year.
The process will be free to enter for local businesses, with them asked to fill out an online questionnaire |newtab) about their current business practices.
The questions are in 5 main sectors: energy, transport, finance, waste and organisational practices.
Businesses will also receive an informative toolkit containing specific actionable advice tailored to their business.
High-scoring businesses will win a sustainable award to display in their shop, window or on their website.
