Salisbury has been called a "wonderful and caring" community after almost 40 crates of donated food was collected by Salisbury Foodbank at their harvest collection.
The collection was held at Tesco Extra on Southampton Road, on Saturday (12th August).
Project Manager at the Foodbank, Maria Stevenson, said the response was "amazing":
"We thank everyone for their support, be it one tin or a basket of food donated. Salisbury is such a wonderful caring community!"
The donations, which totalled 548kg of food, will allow approximately 42 emergency parcels for single people to be handed out, or 23 family emergency food parcels.
Ahead of the collection, Maria told us Foodbank demand will rise between now and Christmas.
“August is the time I get my head down and I prepare for the wind, autumn and winter,” she said, adding that demand usually peaks in December.
Last week, the charity told us they were particularly low on stocks of toiletries.
Maria told us that collection efforts will be extending beyond the summer and into September.
“I'm doing lots of assemblies in schools. I've got a list of about 15 or 20 schools that I'll be attending, talking to students and lots of families.”
Maria was able to give us a insight into what’s on the harvest list, the full list of which will be shown on the foodbank website.
Long life, fruit juice, long life, milk, tinned soup, tinned fruit, tinned meat, jam and sponge pudding are just some of the items on the list.
