Salisbury shoppers encouraged to use Park and Ride this Christmas
Wiltshire Council's hoping to reduce congestion
With Christmas shopping getting underway in Salisbury, people are being encouraged to use city's bus services to ease congestion in the city centre.
Shoppers are being encouraged to use Salisbury Reds routes or the Park and Ride service, to remove the worry of finding a parking space.
The Park and Ride can be found at the following locations:
- Wilton off A36 The Avenue (west of the city) - SP2 OFG
- Britford A338 Downton Road (south of the city) - SP5 4DS
- London Road A30 London Road (north east of the city) - SP1 3HP
- Petersfinger A36 Southampton Road (south east of the city) - SP5 3BZ
- Beehive A345 Castle Road (north of the city) - SP4 6BT
Parking at each site is free and a return journey costs £3.50 for an adult.
People will still be able to drive into the city, with a mixture of short and long stay car parks around the city centre, while Culver Street Car Park offers 24/7 access with no maximum stay time.
Cllr Tamara Reay, Wiltshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Transport, said:
“Salisbury is a vibrant, modern and beautiful medieval city, featuring sought after shopping destinations such as Bradbeers and Primark, as well as many independent stores including those found on Fisherton Street. With various festive activities on offer, such as the pantomime, the festive markets and Christmas on the Square, we are expecting a busy Christmas period, with many visitors and residents looking to come into the city centre.
“With that in mind, we are encouraging our visitors to take the stress out of their visits, plan their journeys and take full advantage of the transport options available when visiting the city.”
“Our Business Plan seeks to have vibrant, well-connected communities. Salisbury is well on the way to achieving this with multi-million pound investment in the city; the Fisherton Gateway project is now complete and works are also progressing well at Salisbury River Park and Station Forecourt.”
