A warning has been issued by police to the drivers of Salisbury to adhere to the rules surrounding cycle lanes.

They've had reports of a number of incidents involving the new ones that were installed on Brown Street, St Ann's Street and Exeter Street.

One of those incidents took place on Exeter Street when a motorist was parked in the cycle lane.

Due to the bollards, it's believed the driver had to drive along the pavement to get to the location.

Police say that the actions of this driver endangered pedestrians and cyclists.

PC Mark Douglas said:

"These cycle lanes have been put in place to ensure those using bikes in our city centre can do so safely – we must all share the road space safely. We will take formal action against anyone who fails to adhere to the rules."

The new routes were put in place to help better link Harnham and Salisbury District Hospital to the city centre.

The scheme is only temporary and Wiltshire Council have to make a decision on it after 6 months.

Bollards are there to prevent motorists from driving into the cycle lane

There has been some criticism of the scheme on social media though.

Some people have said that they are obstructing traffic, while others say that they have been rarely used since being installed.
