Salisbury District Hospital have confirmed that a further patient has passed away there, having tested positive for Covid-19.

This means the total number of fatalities is at 224 since the pandemic began.

A spokesperson for Salisbury District Hospital said:

"Sadly, we can confirm that a patient who had been cared for at Salisbury District Hospital and had tested positive for COVID-19 died on Monday 18th October. The patient was in his 90s and had underlying health conditions.

224 patients in total have now passed away.

Our thoughts and condolences are with the patient’s family and loved ones at this very difficult and distressing time.

There are currently 16 COVID-19 positive patients being treated at the hospital.

We would urge everyone to continue to take precautions to minimise the spread of the virus, and to take up the offer of vaccines when they are offered them.”

LATEST CASES

In the seven days to 13th October, there have been 3,024 positive cases in Wiltshire.

That's a increase of 1,319 on the previous week.

This means the county's rolling rate per 100,000 population is at 599.9.

The national average is 424.
