Cusses Gorse, Salisbury's famous motocross track, is to close it's gates after 22 years.

This summer will be the last season for the sport near Winterbourne Gunner.

Owners say the landowner has requested the premises back for agricultural purposes and they have no option but to close.

A spokesperson for Cusses Gorse said:

"As a family and team we are truly gutted to be closing. We have put blood, sweat and tears in to making the track something to be proud of.

"We would like to thank all of our loyal riders who have visited us over the years, many of whom we have seen grow from autos to pro’s. We would also like to thank our team of marshals and medics who turn up week after week come rain or shine, some of which have been with us since the beginning.

"When we started out we never envisaged the track evolving into what it is today, one of the busiest tracks in the country, over the last 22 years we are proud to have hosted all the major domestic championships, bought outdoor supercross to the UK and this year honoured to have the sidecar GP return to Britain at our venue. We are truly heartbroken that we won't get to see what the next 20 years would bring."

Gates will close for good on 30th September this year but the course will remain open until then for the summer season. All booked races, meeting and events will still go ahead and Sunday practice will also still be on.
