Amesbury out as Salisbury constituency boundaries set to change
Shrewton and Woodford Valley are also out
Proposed changes to the constituency boundaries of Salisbury have been approved.
It means Amesbury is out, along with Shrewton and Woodford Valley, with Amesbury becoming part of a new East Wiltshire area.
However, the constituency held by John Glen MP, gains Nadder Valley, Fovant and Tisbury.
Glenn Reed from Boundaries Commission England said the new area was below the permitted range, so they had to add other areas.
“We've included the whole of the town of Amesbury. We did that because if we hadn't have included the whole of town, the town would have been split between 2 constituencies and we didn't want to do that.”
Speaking on his Facebook page, Salisbury MP John Glen said:
“It has been an honour to represent Amesbury, Shrewton and the Woodford Valley over the past 13 years and I am sad to see that they will not be part of the Salisbury constituency after the next general election.
“However, I am looking forward to meeting and listening to residents in Tisbury, Fovant and the Nadder Valley who will be added to the constituency.”
