A new community arts project, looking to bring joy and creativity to the streets of Salisbury, is asking for your nominations.

Hidden Figures is the idea of local artist Anthony Durman. he wants to bring nine life size figures of real-life Salisbury people to hidden corners of the city.

It's being hosted by Safer and Supportive Salisbury and the first figure will be funded with grants from the Salisbury Community Area Board of Wiltshire Council, the Salisbury City Council and private donations.

Organisers want you to put an individual forward, but it's got to be someone who has done or brought something memorable to the city.

Liz Batten, one of the organisers, says it has to be a person you want to commemorate or celebrate.

"We're asking the people of Salisbury and surrounding areas to suggest people that could be part of the street art.

"The idea is that you would nominate someone who is alive now because they will need to be scanned and have their photo taken to have the sculpture made of them."

The idea is to have nine figures dotted around the city out of the way, not on the street, up above on window ledges or just tucked away in private places.

Sculpture Anthony Durman has already got one figure tucked away off Fisherton Street, which is a sculpture of his daughter sat on a garden wall looking into the river.

They will be made out of white granite as it's an environmentally friendly material to make sculptures with.

Once nominations are in, the vote will go to the public and they will have the chance to choose who gets to the final.

"When all of the nine Hidden Figures are in place there will be a phone app that people can use to find their way around the city and find out where the sculptures are located and because they are hidden, the idea is to help people find where they are.

"We hope that there will also be information on the app to tell the back story on the person that has been selected and why they were nominated."
