Salisbury Coach Park work delayed by two months
The Millstream Approach site now isn't expected to reopen until July
Salisbury's Coach Park won't be reopening until the beginning of July - a delay of two months on the improvement works being carried out there.
Wiltshire Council closed the site in January, to allow for a raft of works coinciding with the River Park project.
That was due to be completed in April, with the aim of improving the appearance for visitors arriving into the city by coach.
The Council now tell us the work's been pushed back by poor weather in recent months, and complications with utilities.
Cllr Tamara Reay, Wiltshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Transport, said:
“The enhancements to the coach park have been hampered by extensive periods of high river flows and flooding throughout this year which, along with additional work due to uncharted utilities and ground contamination, has impacted on the progress of the ground works. Most works are now well advanced, but we are still waiting for the river levels to drop sufficiently to complete the drainage works.
“The Environment Agency is doing all it can to finish the works, including working longer days as well as continuing with weekend working.
“This means however that the coach park will not re-open until the beginning of July and we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. The current temporary arrangements for drop off, pick up and coach parking will be retained until the new coach park at Millstream Approach opens.”
Once completed, there'll be six coach spaces for drop-offs and pick ups, with ten parking spaces for the buses in the Central car park.
A 'pocket park', improved lighting, newly planted trees and a 'welcome space' with seating and an information is planned.
A new mural has also been painted on the toilet block.
While the work continues, tourist coaches coming into Salisbury city centre have to drop off passengers on St John's Street and then use Exeter Street or the Britford park and ride site for parking.
