Preparations for the reopening of Salisbury City Hall are stepping up - but no opening date has been confirmed.

We're told that repair works to the building are being carried out in preparation for doors opening again.

With a number of acts having booked shows for September this year, it's led to speculation that the venue could welcome visitors at the end of summer.

However, Wiltshire Council has said a date will be confirmed once the lease with it's preferred operator has been signed.

The council says the operator - believed to be Swindon's MECA - is 'keen to open as soon as possible this year'.

Cllr Richard Clewer, Leader of Wiltshire Council, said: "The lease is currently being finalised and should be signed very soon.

"We are currently in the process of carrying out repairs to the building, meaning that when the provider formally takes over they can hit the ground running.”

The venue has been closed since January 2023, having last been used as a Covid-19 vaccination site.
