The decision by Wiltshire Council means that City Hall in Salisbury will remain shut until 'it is deemed safe and financially viable to reopen'.

The closure means all events currently scheduled to take place at the venue will not happen, and customers will get full refunds on their tickets.

Staff affected have been informed, with a formal consultation period due to start next week.

Wiltshire Council say they'll redeploy some staff around the authority where possible.

Cllr Richard Clewer, Deputy Leader of Wiltshire Council and Cabinet Member for Heritage, Arts and Tourism, said:

"Given the uncertainty of the indoor entertainment industry at this time, we think this is a sensible option.

"We know how popular City Hall is, but this has been an unprecedented time that has had a huge impact on the industry and our finances.

"At the moment, with COVID-19 cases rising nationally, we cannot say with any certainty when performances can re-commence in 2021. In light of this it makes sense to formalise a temporary closure.

"I'd like to thank all the City Hall staff for their professionalism at an unsettling time."

WHAT TO DO IF YOU HAVE CITY HALL TICKETS

You'll be contacted by City Hall staff if you have tickets for the venue, to arrange refunds for any performances booked.

Wiltshire Council have asked that customers are patient and do not contact the Box Office, as they'll be working through the refunds process.
