New Salisbury City Council member to be co-opted

There'll be no by-election in the St Paul's ward

A new member of Salisbury City Council will be chosen by co-option, rather than a by-election.

The authority has to call a ballot if enough local electors ask for one.

But it's now been confirmed that a vacancy in the St Paul's ward will be filled by the Council themselves.

The space has become available after Councillor Lynne Blackwood stepped down from her role.

There's now a push for anyone who would like to join the authority to apply to Salisbury City Council.

To be a City Councillor you must be:

• 18 years of age or over at the date of application;

• A British citizen, a Commonwealth citizen or a citizen of a European Union country; and

• A local government elector within the parish; OR

• Have worked in the parish for the last 12 months; OR

• Have lived in the parish, or within 3 miles of it, for the last 12 months; OR

• Owned land/property in the parish area for the last 12 months.

There's more details on the Salisbury City Council website.

Applications need to be by 5pm on Friday 25th October, with the Full Council making a decision at its meeting on Monday 4th November.
