Salisbury City Council to bring street cleaning and park maintenance fully in house
We are being warned of some disruption though
Salisbury City Council says all street cleaning and maintenance of the city's parks and open spaces will be fully in house from 1st December.
Previously, parts of these services had been delivered by Idverde, but in Oct 2020 the City Council agreed that these services should be brought in house.
City bosses hope the move will provide 'more efficient and locally controlled services.'
Some workers from Idverde will move across and we're told there won't be any redundancies.
But were told an unavoidable consequence of the period of transition will be a temporary reduction of staffing levels until the recruitment process restores staffing to greater capacity. That in turn will temporarily result in a slightly reduced level of service.
Cllr Annie Riddle, one of the Leaders of the Council said;
“I am pleased that after much planning and preparation the change to a fully in house Streetscene and Parks Team takes place this week. The Council are determined, once the teething period is over, to deliver a local, focussed and effective high standard of cleanliness and good upkeep of the city for those who live in, work in or visit the city.
Last week the Council said that some litter bins from the city streets are being temporarily removed due to a lack of manpower to empty all the bins.
The local authority said the move was to prevent rubbish overflowing into the streets.
The bins will be replaced once staffing levels increase,
The bins that are most commonly used, along with new recycling bins in the city centre, will remain.
We're being urged to dispose of our rubbish considerately.
