Wiltshire Council's Cabinet have unanimously agreed to progress the government's offer of funding to revitalise Salisbury city centre.

After bids to their Future High Streets Fund, the local authority were awarded £9,355,731.

This funding will go towards a number of projects in Salisbury including a redesign of the station forecourt making it more attractive and accessible for visitors and residents.

It will also be used for improvements to the road network and public spaces along Fisherton Street which connects the station to Salisbury's retail centre, where a number of apartments will be created to encourage the use of vacant upper floors.

The Cabinet also agreed to over £16 million of funding for Trowbridge.

Richard Clewer, Deputy Leader of Wiltshire Council, said:

"This significant investment in two of our main town centres is very welcomed especially at a time when our high streets are facing so many challenges. We recognise this isn't the full amount we bid for, but we are committed to delivering these transformational projects and rejuvenate the town centres."

In order to make sure the funding is used correctly, Wiltshire Council will now produce an update showing that the proposed projects can be delivered using the money given.

They will have to submit the document to the government by 26th February, with it also proving that it will meet the benefit/cost ratio.
