The 'Turning Point' sculpture gifted to the city by artist John Maine RA has been installed in Salisbury city centre.

The 4.2 metre granite statue has been placed in the Guildhall Square close to the War Memorial.

The finishing touches being put on the sculpture

There are currently safety barriers surrounding the piece of art to protect it while the mortar sets.

You'll be able to see the sculpture in its full glory when the barriers are removed later today (15th April).

A planning application was submitted in January 2020 and it was supposed to be installed as part of the 800 year anniversary of the city, but was delayed due to the pandemic.

The City Council says the statue is intended as a 'marker of confidence' contributing to a sense of optimism for the future of Salisbury.

At an estimated weight of 5 tons, the sculpture is built in seven sections of granite and shaped in the form of a spire.
