Salisbury Hospice Charity have stopped registrations for their Christmas Tree Collection and Recycling service after an "overwhelming demand".

They've reached their maximum sign ups of 1,100 households, who will have their festive decorations picked up in the next week.

The charity said they hope people understand that the safety of their volunteers is paramount and they have to managed tree numbers in order to adhere to Covid guidelines.

Some of the money goes to the charity, with ÂŁ13,000 being raised last year.

For 2021, 10% of the donations made will also be passed on to the Charlie's Star charity, which funds respite breaks for families that have lost a child under the age of 19.

Any of the families who have signed up are being asked to make sure their tree is left in their designated place by 9am on Friday (8th January).

They will then be chipped and recycled to be used as animal bedding at Rose Farm in Hurdcott, or turned into compost at Newbourne Farm near Fordingbridge.

COLLECTED BY THE COUNCIL

Any Wiltshire residents who pay to have their garden waste collected at the kerbside will be able to have their Christmas trees collected, free of charge.

One tree can be picked up by per property.

Alternatively, anyone who doesn't sign up to the council's service can take their tree to any of their household recycling centres.
