A team of Wiltshire volunteers have been spending today (Friday 11th) collecting, packing and sending off items donated for those people affected by the conflict in Ukraine.

They took over a part of Salisbury's Five Rivers Health and Wellbeing centre, with members of the public arriving with boxes of things like food, clothes and medicine.

It was organised by Magdalena Najman, who set up the Wiltshire for Ukraine Facebook group.

She was joined by over 20 volunteers this morning.

Magdalena told Greatest Hits Radio:

"The support is very overwhelming really and it sort of reinstates your faith in humanity for us here and getting all people together young and old, it's just really touching. I haven't done it for myself, the reason I've done it is because people wanted to donate so the only reason Wiltshire for Ukraine Facebook Group has been set up is to give people a platform so they know how to donate and where to donate and that's it, it's nothing for me to be proud, it's about everyone getting together."

The team will also be at Five Rivers tomorrow morning, from 9am until 4pm, collecting donations.

Visit the Wiltshire for Ukraine page on Facebook to see a list of items that will be accepted.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

With lots of boxes being packed and moved about, Magdalena says they are in need of more volunteers for tomorrow's sessions.

Anyone who has any spare time can go down to Five Rivers can get on board and help out.

Joan Brock was volunteering there on Friday morning:

"I think that everyone should be doing their bit at the moment, the least we can do is step up to the mark. If it was your children, your family you'd want them looked after, you'd want supplies to get to them and I think everybody has a purpose and a sense of duty that they now need to step up and help these people."
