Salisbury Cathedral to reopen for worship from Mothering Sunday
You'll be able to worship 'in person' at the Cathedral again this weekend
Last updated 8th Mar 2021
A congregration will once again be allowed back into Salisbury Cathedral from this Sunday, March 14th, which is Mothering Sunday.
You'll need to book to attend a service due to limited capacity and the need to social disance.
Masks will need to be work and they'll be no congregational singing.
Salisbury Cathedral suspended 'in person' worship in January, supporting government attempts to control the virus and its variants, and protect the NHS.
Speaking about re-opening The Very Revd Nicholas Papadopulos said:
"We are delighted to be welcoming local worshippers back to Salisbury Cathedral from Mothering Sunday, 14 March. Our pattern of services has been sustained throughout the third lockdown, but these have been livestreamed only: it will be very good to see people offering prayer and worship here once more, as they have done for 800 years. We will continue to maintain high standards in hygiene and social distancing to ensure that worship is as safe as we can make it, and we are very pleased that as Easter approaches our Cathedral's doors will be open".
__ Canon Anna Macham, Salisbury Cathedral's Canon Precentor said:
"It will be fantastic to welcome worshippers back to the Cathedral after many months, whether regular congregation members or newcomers. Running services online and in-person is often complex, and a lot of thought and care has gone into our worship provision during this time. We look forward to welcoming worshippers back to said services, and to continuing to live-stream choral services as per the pattern on our website. Please make sure you book a seat for in person worship for track and trace purposes."
Bookings can be made via the Cathedral website, for the next three weeks.
Those who don't have access to the internet can call the Cathedral team can be reach on 01722 512156.
Live streaming will continue for some services as well.
