Illuminations and sounds will fill Salisbury Cathedral of an evening (Tuesday 8th November) throughout this week, as a popular event returns.

Sarum Lights is back from tonight until Saturday (12th November), with the theme of Renaissance this time.

It's the third time it's been held, with designers Luxmuralis describing it as the highlight of their year.

The lights will illuminate the West Front of the Cathedral as well as throughout the inside of the building

Their Artistic Director is Peter Walker:

"When you present artwork, you're confident in the work that you put out there. We never try and be prescriptive, it's for people to come and get what they want from it. The great thing with what we do with the Cathedral is that it's open to all ages and you're here for quite a long time because of the scale of the building as well."

Light shows under the same Sarum Lights banner were held in both 2020 and 2021.

This year's installations are new for this year, taking inspiration from the great Italian Renaissance masters.

We're told the immersive event will take us 'into the heart of some of the greatest paintings and artworks of all time, rekindling the wonder and excitement that must have been felt over 600 years ago as this extraordinary period in history unfolded'.

This year's theme for Sarum Lights is Renaissance, with immersive lights and sounds inside and outside Salisbury Cathedral

Peter Walker from Luxmuralis says he's looking forward to having people see it:

"When people start walking in, it really brings the experience to life. Walking round these beautiful spaces, there's a rich and powerful sense in this building anyway, and then when the lights are there, it can evoke different emotions that allows people to experience it in all sorts of different ways."

Tickets for Sarum Lights are still available through the Salisbury Cathedral website. |newtab)

The light show runs on a loop throughout the evening, starting from 5.30pm, with the last entry at 8.45pm.

Admission is £10 for adults, £6 for children aged 4 to 16, with family tickets (2 adults and 2 children) for £26.
