Sad news on the fourth Peregrine egg at Salisbury Cathedral
Only three chicks have made it this year
After days of hoping for a fourth Peregrine chick at Salisbury Cathedral, that hope has been dashed after the egg was crushed by one of the adult birds.
With no unhatched chick inside, it leaves us with three chicks this year.
Experts on the Salisbury Peregrines Facebook page said: “As far as our experts can see, the egg seems to have been infertile and just full of yolk and albumen.
“The adult female seems to nibble bits of the broken shell and sip up some of the albumen or yolk. There seemed to be no unhatched chick in the egg.”
A naming theme is due to be announced later this week.
