If you think you have problems getting a tree in the front door then spare a thought for Salisbury Cathedral!

A giant 32 ft tree has been carefully manoeuvred through the medieval door by trucking company Guyatts.

The tree is from Longleat's sustainable forest and another one will be planted there in it's place.

Carefully does it!

Due to its size it's not an easy job but the team have it all under control.

As is customary the tree is erected at the West End of the Cathedral and will be decorated shortly.

The Cathedral will also have its renaissance style Nativity scene back.Three huge panels that hang above the Spire Crossing and feature members of the Cathedral congregations, staff and community as characters in the Christmas story.

Meanwhile the Cathedral will open late next Wednesday (15th December) from 630pm-9pm for residents and visitors to enjoy.

The shop and Refectory will be open during the free drop in event with seasonal music provided by the Kate Edgar Choir.

The Cathedral's newly commissioned, child-friendly wooden Nativity figures will also be unveiled then.

Made by local artist Ray Wirick children can 'meet' the Holy Family and play with a small flock of 'sit on' sheep.
