The Advent season officially begins at Salisbury Cathedral this weekend (from Friday 29th November), with the return of the 'From Darkness to Light' services.

The hugely popular events see over 1,000 candles gradually lit to shine across the medieval building.

It symbolises the darkness of winter into the light of hope that Advent and Christmas brings.

The services will be held at 7.00pm on Friday 19th and Saturday 30th November, and at 5.00pm on Sunday 1st December.

The service sees the procession make its way around the Cathedral, lighting more than 1,000 candles

It's free to go along, and no tickets are required, but there's a warning to visitors that it will be busy.

Queue numbers will be issued on the night, to ensure fair access.

Saving seats also isn't allowed, so groups wanting to sit together need to be in the queue together.

Those with limited mobility, or wheelchair users, will be allocated a waiting area in the South Transept, once they've been given a queue number.

Everyone's asked to be seated 20 minutes before the service begins, and there's no additional entry once all the seats are filled.
