A care home in Salisbury is having to close its doors for six months to enable crucial safety works to be carried out.

Structural defects were discovered at Salisbury Manor during work to update a sprinkler system there.

Care UK, which took over running the facility in Shapland Close in late 2021, says it's not safe for the 36 residents to stay whilst repairs are made.

Regional Director Jemma Griffiths said;

“After exploring various options, we have come to understand that the repairs cannot be completed safely or effectively while the home is occupied so we have reluctantly concluded that it will be necessary for residents to temporarily move out of Salisbury Manor.”

“We recognise this is unsettling news and we are doing everything we can to work with residents, their relatives and our partners in the relevant local authorities and the NHS to help everyone find somewhere new to live. The majority of residents already have a plan for alternate accommodation in place. Our team is working tirelessly to ensure a smooth and safe transition for all residents.”

The company also said it's looking at opportunities for staff to work at other homes it operates in the region too.

Jemma Griffiths said,

“I would like to offer my apologies for the disruption this causes to those affected and want to reassure everyone involved that we would do all we can to support families, residents and colleagues throughout this process.”

Wilshire Council told Greatest Hits Radio Salisbury it would be helping the home support those affected.

"Given the nature of these works, this decision has been made in the best interest of the residents and staff to ensure a safe and pleasant living and working environment.

“We understand this will be an unsettling time for residents and their families. Wiltshire Council is working closely with them to ensure we can find new homes which meets their needs with minimum disruption. We will continue to work closely with Care UK to ensure residents’ needs are at the forefront of any decision making.”

Salisbury Manor offers nursing, dementia and residential care, as well as short term respite care.
