Police ran a special day on Saturday (26th September) to help bike owners to prevent themselves becoming the victims of thefts.

They gave advice to cyclists at both Five Rivers Leisure Centre and in the Guildhall Square.

The event also saw police putting markings on bikes that can then be added to the national Bike Register website.

Being part of the Bike Register will mean if your bicycle is stolen and traced by police, the distinguishing marks will prove it's yours and could mean it gets returned to you more quickly.

Salisbury Police posted on their Facebook page about the success of the event saying:

"We would like to thank everyone who came to see us today for the cycle marking/security event. In total, we marked 65 cycles. That's 65 cycles that we hope to be prevented from becoming subject to theft or can be easily traced to its rightful owner should the unthinkable happen."

They've also said that police would be keen to run similar events, if there's a demand from the public.

More than 30 comments have been made on their social media form people who'd like to take part in future sessions.
