Another 'Big Help Out' to be held in Salisbury to boost stocks for the city's food services, like the Foodbank, Salisbury Pantry and community fridges.

A special day of collections will take place on the Guildhall Square on Saturday 8th June, between 10.00am and 3.00pm.

It follows the success of an event last summer, held to mark the King's Coronation.

Items brought along on the day with support local charities with supplies, at a time when demand usually rises, but big Easter and Christmas collections have been used up.

Where would donations go?

Salisbury Pantry, run by Salisbury City Council, now supports 120 households per week, with nearly 400 households currently registered.

A basic shop there contains a minimum of 15 items of tinned or packaged food, which means they need to get a minimum of 7,200 on their shelves every month.

Salisbury Foodbank has seen demand over the last 5 years increase by 96%.

Old Sarum and Longhedge Pantry has now been open for a year with 150 households registered for shopping and accessing their much-needed space for a cup of tea and some support.

This year, the three food projects will be joined at the event by Acorn Community Bank, offering information about financial inclusion and the credit union service they provide and the F3 growing project, who provide fresh produce for the Salisbury Pantry.

The Big Help Out event is coordinated by Salisbury City Council Communities Team. |newtab)
