Salisbury BID backing the Wiltshire Digital Drive laptop campaign
They're hoping others across the city will get involved too
Last updated 8th Feb 2021
Salisbury BID are trying to help people in the city get laptops by backing the Wiltshire Digital Drive.
The community interest company have been refurbishing and recycling donated laptops and other bits of tech to give to the community, since last year.
With many children learning from home, they want to give disadvantaged pupils a chance to make the most of it by using technology, as well as charities and voluntary organisations.
From April to December 2020, they refurbished 225 laptops and they have a mission to do 10,000 between 2020 and 2023.
Now Salisbury BID are supporting the organisation's aim.
They've teamed up with Wilson Solicitors LLP who have set up a collection point at their office in the city.
It will be available 11am to 1pm every Monday to Wednesday.
Dan Collins, Salisbury BID Business Manager, said:
"We have seen what an impact the pandemic has had on education and when we heard about the amazing work of the Wiltshire Digital Drive we wanted to show our support. We hope by Wilsons Solicitors LLP opening a drop-off point in Salisbury it will make it easier for businesses to donate their unwanted devices.
Many of us have old laptops or tablets collecting dust, either at home or in the office, so this project will put them to good use and really help a child's education. A big thank you to Wilsons Solicitors LLP who have allowed the collection to take place."
WHAT SORT OF KIT IS SUITABLE?
Wiltshire Digital Drive accept any unwanted desktops, laptops and tablets that you may have at your home or business. Machines will need to have a Windows 7, 8 or 10 operating system and a working keyboard and screen. If you still have the charger, they will need that too.
"We ensure that every piece of technology donated is tested and securely wiped. If a machine isn’t worth upgrading, we will remove all reusable parts and recycle the rest, so nothing goes to waste."
