Salisbury-based charity giving up stores in the city
Trussell is handing it's Salisbury stores over to the Shaw Trust
A Salisbury-based charity is handing over control of it's charity shops in the city to another organisation.
Trussell - formerly known as the Trussell Trust - is giving up it's stores on the High Street and Churchfields, with the sites being taken over by the Shaw Trust.
The charity, which is working towards ending hunger across the UK, said charity shops had played an important role over the last 20 years, helping generate awareness and funds for foodbanks.
In a statement, the charity said: "While our financial position remains strong, our vision of a UK without the need for food banks is ambitious and requires our full attention. As the need for food banks in the UK grows, we must steward our donations carefully into activities that most closely align with our mission, and we are unable to divert further funding into our charity shops to strengthen their operations and ensure it thrives."
The move follows the charity rebranding itself as Trussell.
The charity says it's spent several months searching for other charitable organisations - whose work also supports people facing hardship - who have a larger retail operation.
"We wanted to find a home for our charity shops that would allow them to grow and build sustainability, ensuring our shops could be stronger together while also operating within a similar charitable sector."
Eventually Trussell settled on the Shaw Trust.
Trussell said: "Shaw Trust is a national charity with Wiltshire roots, whose mission is to help people find secure and meaningful work. With 23 charity shops across the country, they are committed to charity retail as part of their strategy.
"Shaw Trust are a key partner in achieving our vision; ensuring that everyone can access decent and rewarding work opportunities and building strong, inclusive communities are key building block in reaching a future where no one needs a food bank to survive, and Shaw Trust are committed to doing just that."
Trussell transferred charity shop activity to Shaw Trust at the start of November.
