The Salisbury 10 Mile running race - which had already been postponed by a year and rescheduled from March 2020 to April 11th 2021 - has now been cancelled.

Organisers of the event, which is the City of Salisbury Athletic & Running Club's flagship 10 mile race, have taken the decision in light of the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.

RUN: SAFETY A PRIORITY AMID COVID-19

In a statement posted on Facebook, Salisbury A&RC said:

"Our primary focus is for the health and safety of our 1000 runners, 100 volunteers and the general public and we do not feel comfortable putting on a mass participation event in the current COVID climate."

"Unfortunately, due to rising cases of COVID-19 and government restrictions imposed on high case areas and mass gatherings we have made the difficult but necessary decision to cancel the 2021 event. The race is organised solely by volunteers and we do not have the capacity or resources to arrange the race in an alternative format that is considered COVID-safe."

No future date for the popular 10 mile running race has been announced.

Salisbury A&RC say that if you'd entered the 2020 Salisbury 10 mile, check your emails to find out how to get your 2020 Salisbury 10 mile technical T-shirt, medal and discount next time they run the event.

They were forced to cancel the 2020 race just two weeks before the event was due to be staged. That meant Salisbury A&RC had spent money on event T-shirts, medals, trophies and other costs that couldn't be refunded.

2020 would also have marked the 25th anniversary of the Salisbury 10 Mile. and the plan had been to tie-in their anniversary with the 800th anniversary of Salisbury Cathedral.
