Salisbury first as “Rule of Law” celebrations made public
There's a procession through the streets today (Sunday 12th March)
People of Salisbury can show their civic pride today (Sunday 12th March) as the Rule of Law is celebrated with a public service.
The Rule of Law Celebration dates back to the Magna Carta 1215, which gave every citizen the right to a trial by a jury of 12 fellow citizens, and that they are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Mayor of Salisbury, Cllr Tom Corbin said:
“I am delighted that the Rule of Law Celebration can be witnessed by the public this year.
“It will be fantastic to be part of this important ceremonial occasion in Salisbury which celebrates the vital work that our Judiciary, uniformed Services and Local Authorities do to protect our community and keep it safe.”
The ceremony is usually held behind closed doors at the Cathedral, with an invite only guest list, this year sees a procession through the streets.
The procession will begin at Salisbury Guildhall at 4.10pm, reaching the Cathedral at around 4:25pm.
