The Royal British Legion Morgan’s Vale, Woodfalls & Redlynch - centenary celebration
Event marks 100 years since formation of local branch
Celebrations are taking place today (Sunday 15 May 2022) marking 100 years since the formation of The Royal British Legion's Morgan’s Vale, Woodfalls & Redlynch branch.
An event is taking place that will see the Laying Up and Dedication of the old and new standards.
There will also be a parade and service at St Mary's Church in Redlynch, following along similar lines to the regular Remembrance Day service.
The day will include the presentation of an RBL certificate to a veteran who has a 99th birthday today.
This event is a milestone for the community. It all started in 1922 with the forming of this Branch of the Royal British Legion, by those community members who had returned from the Great War of 1914 – 18. Many of them having left friends and family in Europe. To this day their memory remains, as it does for the modern Armed Forces who continue with the defense of the realm, including humanitarian help and assistance in the World.
The Parade and Church Service will be a celebration, following along similar lines to their regular Remembrance Service.
Other Royal British Legion (RBL) branches and community organisations are expected to be taking part in this celebration. As is normal on these occasions, the Branch will lay up the old Standard, and for the first time leave Church with the dedicated, new Standard which the community funded with its donations.
Work has gone well on the planning for this event.
