Shops, restaurants, pubs, nail salons and hairdressers in Salisbury are able to open their doors and welcome customers back today.

They have been shut for the last 14 weeks due to the latest national lockdown.

However, the next set of restrictions have been lifted and a section of life can return to a little bit of normality.

Hospitality venues can only serve drinks and food outside for the time being, with many like the Winchester Gate making adjustments to their outdoor area to be able to welcome back customers.

Manager Abi Blake says it's been a long time coming!

"We are ecstatic to be able to get open and welcome back all our incredible locals and newbies that want to check out our new garden. It feels like a long time coming but we are ready, we are excited and we want to welcome people back!"

There's also a request from Salisbury BID for us to do our bit to help local businesses, echoing Boris Johnson's plea for people to "behave responsibly".

  • Maintain social distancing
  • Follow all necessary hygiene measures - clean hands, cover face, make space
  • Follow safety advice inside and outside shops - take notice of any guidance in shop windows as to how many customers are allowed at any one time
  • Queue considerately and be patient
  • Respect our hardworking shop workers
  • Try to avoid peak times
  • Have contact details ready when visiting hospitality venues – it is now a Government requirement for venues to take contact information for ALL customers in a party
  • Book in advance if possible, and always cancel bookings if they are no longer required

Robin McGowan, Chief Executive of Salisbury BID, said:

"April 12th is the date many non-essential businesses have been waiting for and Salisbury BID is reminding local residents and visitors that the city is open for business and Covid secure. With the Experience Salisbury brand launching soon we felt it was an ideal way to incorporate that into the welcome back message, because it really is time to #ExperienceSalisburyAgain. With the support of local residents, businesses can get through this tough time."
