Residents urged to have their say on junction improvements in Salisbury
More details have been given on the plans
Last updated 24th Jun 2021
More details on the proposed plans to upgrade three junctions in Salisbury have been revealed and we are being asked to have our say on them.
Exeter Street Roundabout, Harnham Gyratory and Park Wall Junction would be getting some improvements under the proposals, which are at an early stage.
If approved, all three areas would be reconfigured to increase capacity and improve journey times and reduce queues for motor vehicles.
It's also hoped to improve walking and cycling within the city.
If approved, and depending on the final details, the scheme could cost in the region of £15 million.
Funding has been secured from the Department for Transport for all of the projects.
Wiltshire Council are now holding some consultations for people to learn more about the plans and then let them know their views.
To help, an online consultation booklet has been created, which includes pictures of what the changes would mean.
Cllr Dr Mark McClelland, Cabinet Member for Transport, said:
"It's really important that people take the time to share their views on this project, which will help to keep traffic in the Salisbury area moving.
"If approved, these changes will increase capacity at the junctions for motorists and improve journey times, and link with existing cycling and walking routes to improve active travel links in the area.
"The feedback we gather now will be used to create an Outline Business Case, which will be submitted to the Department for Transport (DfT) later in the summer. If the scheme is then approved by DfT, there will be another consultation and engagement exercise, followed by the preparation of a Final Business Case, with construction hoped to begin in later 2023.
"Of course, we recognise that this scheme alone will not be the solution to traffic issues in the Salisbury area, but it will improve traffic flows on our network. We are working with Highways England, which manages the A36, to find further solutions to improve traffic on the strategic road network."
We have until 23:59pm on Sunday 18th July to make our views heard by the council and you can take the survey by visiting their website.
