Residents around Tidworth get first Covid-19 vaccine
The centre was set up a day after the first South Wiltshire one in Wilton yesterday (7th January)
The first Covid-19 vaccination centre in Tidworth opened it's doors today (Friday 8th January).
Invited people over the age of 80 have been visiting the Leisure Centre to get their first of the Pfizer jabs.
Everyone who received the vaccine will have to return for their second dose in three months time.
Among the first people to get vaccinated was Barbara Francis, 88, who said afterwards:
"I couldn't sleep last night because I was overthinking it, but now I feel great and can't wait until my daughter gets it".
Meanwhile, 80 year old Sally Down from Amesbury told Greatest Hits Radio:
"I feel very pleased and I should still obviously take particular care, but I think it's all wonderful. It was an excellent procedure all round, well organised car park and inside the operation was brilliant."
Yesterday (7th Jan), the first community vaccine centre in South Wiltshire opened up in the Michael Herbert Hall in Wilton.
Dr Toby Davies, GP at Castle Practice and Clinical Lead for Tidworth PCN Vaccination site said:
"This is the day we have all been waiting for. It is fantastic to see so many people getting vaccinated. This has been a huge logistical effort and the whole team have been brilliant.
It's great that people are keen to get vaccinated but could everyone please remember not to phone your GP or hospital as the NHS will contact you when its your turn to be invited for a jab. When contacted, I encourage everyone to accept, but please only come to the sites 5 minutes before your appointment."
The vaccination programme is continuing to be rolled out across the region.
