Refurbished ward reopens at Salisbury District Hospital
Work's been ongoing on the Whiteparish ward for five months
A ward at Salisbury District Hospital has been reopened, following five months of refurbishments.
Whiteparish takes in diabetes and endocrine patients, and later this year will also care for some cardiology patients.
Two new ensuite bathrooms have been installed, along with an additional shower, a new clinic room and improved temperature control.
The Stars Appeal has also funded new overbed tables, an activity trolley and bedside lockers.
Patients starting moving back onto the ward yesterday, and it's expected to be fully operational within a few days, taking the total number of beds at the hospital to 432.
Chief Medical Officer Dr Peter Collins said:
“I am delighted to see the refurbished ward open. This ward provides a much-improved space for our committed staff to work in and better facilities for our patients. The improvements will help staff continue to give the highest quality compassionate care to all our patients.
"I would like to thank the team from Westmade Ltd who have delivered the refurbishment, Artcare for providing the artwork, the Stars Appeal and all colleagues in our estates, facilities and management teams who have supported the project.”
Dr James Lawrence Consultant in Endocrinology and Diabetes added:
“I am very excited for the future of the services we offer and the improvements in patient care that these refurbishments will enable.”
