Redlynch man completes 885 mile walking challenge for Prostate Cancer UK
He finished under the arch at Wembley
A man from Redlynch has completed his mammoth charity challenge of walking 885 miles.
In February, Ben Lindsay set himself a target of 'virtually' walking to all the stadiums in the Premier League starting from his home to St Mary's in Southampton and finishing at Wembley.
He completed the walks around his local area due to the coronavirus restrictions, but for the final leg, Ben and his team of Av Watson, Sue Wareham and Lorna O'Brien completed a marathon and finished underneath the Wembley arch.
He was raising money for Prostate Cancer UK after his uncle and his cousin's husband were both diagnosed with the disease.
He's managed to raise over £2,000 already, with the Just Giving page staying open for a few more weeks.
In a post on Facebook, Ben said:
"THE END. 885 miles completed. Over £2000 raised so far. Our London marathon done 26.6 miles.
Absolute pleasure to spend the last 2 days with these loons. Absolute buzzing to of completed this challenge. Really really proud of my Stunning better half after putting herself through the pain barrier today so proud of you.
Massive thanks to all that have walked with me or supported or donated. I really can’t thank you enough."
BOOST FOR MENTAL HEALTH
Ben says the walks have also had an added bonus of improving his mental wellbeing.
He told Greatest Hits Radio:
"Just getting outside, the fresh air as well as keeping you active and physically fit has improved by mental wellbeing. So much so that I felt if it was helping me it could help others so I've set up a Facebook group called Walks for All. The aim is to encourage others to get outside and see what we've got on our doorstep."
You can still donate to Ben's challenge via his Just Giving page.
