They'll be donated to people in Africa to help boost self-esteem

Women in Salisbury have donated a record breaking number of bras to support people in Africa - in more ways than one!

The city's Soroptimists group runs a collection each year, for charity Afreebra to deliver to females in various African counties.

This year 3,736 pieces of underwear were handed in - well up on the 2,500 given in 2022.

Volunteers gathered for a night sorting the bras, (with a few glasses of wine!) and bagging them up for the charity to store.

The bras will go to women who otherwise would not be able to afford such garments.

It's hoped that will boost their confidence and self-esteem, thanks to support from the South Wiltshire group that promotes females and their achievements.

The group have counted up all the bras and sent them to national charity Afreebra

The Salisbury bra collection will return next year, with local women asked to keep hold of used, but wearable, underwear for donations later on.

Salisbury Soroptimists have thanked Five Rivers Health and Wellbeing Centre for being their main collection point.
