A woman was bitten by rat in the McDonald's branch on Salisbury's Southampton Road.

It happened on the 4th July.

A spokesperson for the company told Greatest Hits Radio the rodent entered through the front doors.

“Hygiene and cleanliness is of the utmost importance to us. We are aware that an incident occurred when a rat entered through the front doors of the restaurant. It was quickly contained by members of our team, but a customer was bitten as she attempted to handle the rat. A sanitisation process was immediately undertaken and pest control experts have carried out a precautionary inspection.”

It's understood the customer went to A&E for a tetanus injection.

Wiltshire Council says it's aware of what happened but hasn't received any complaints.

Cllr Ian Blair-Pilling, Cabinet Member for Public Protection said;

“Rodents are known to inhabit the natural environment near Southampton Road and the businesses along there have their own pest control contracts to keep rodents at bay. The McDonalds store on Southampton Road is relatively new branch. It is due for inspection and their controls will be reviewed
