Wiltshire Pupils descend on Swindon for chance to take part in EFL Girls Cup
The winning school represents the Robins, and could get the chance to represent the South of England at Wembley
The EFL Girls Cup is being hailed as a 'great chance' to show the quality of up-and-coming talent across Wiltshire.
An event is being held at Swindon Town's Foundation Park today, with secondary school pupils entering that competition.
The winning school represents the Robins, and could get the chance to represent the South of England at Wembley.
The game itself comprises of a six-a-side competition for U13 girls up and down the country.
This eventually culminates in a grand final prior to the EFL Trophy Final at Wembley Stadium - something Swindon Town narrowly missed out on doing in last year's competition.
The road to the finals begin when each EFL Club organises a local competition for all schools wishing to take part - which is what's happening today in Swindon.
Each winning school of the local competition then represents their club in the North or South Area Finals, in a bid to reach the Regional Finals.
The two teams who are victorious in the North and South Regional Finals proceed to play at the Grand Final at Wembley in March.
Shane Hewlett is from the Community Foundation at Swindon Town FC, and told Greatest Hits Radio: "Swindon secondary schools will be coming to Foundation Park - for the chance to compete at Wembley in London.
"It's huge... I mean, not many people in their lifetimes get to say they've done something like that.
"It's also a great opportunity for us to take a look at some of the most talented girls in the county.
"We'll have secondary schools as far as Salisbury and Warminster, as well as ones from closer to home in Swindon who'll be entering that.
"The winning town will get to represent Swindon Town in the Cup for the South, with the eventual winners getting to play against the winners of the North over in London.
"We had a girls team from Salisbury who just missed out on the regional finals, which was as close as we've been for a few years, so let's see how we fare this year!"
Over 6,000 girls are involved in the annual competition.
